Root Canal Therapy

What is root canal therapy?

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infection at the center of a tooth (the pulp). It’s typically needed when the pulp becomes infected through decay or injury.

Initial Diagnosis

The dentist assesses the tooth and takes an X-ray to plan treatment.

Creating Access

A small opening is made in the tooth to access the infected pulp.

Removing Pulp

The damaged pulp, nerves, and blood vessels are removed from inside the tooth.

Cleaning Canals

The root canals are thoroughly cleaned to eliminate bacteria and debris.

Shaping Canals

The canals are shaped to prepare for the filling material.

Filling the Canals

Canals are sealed with gutta-percha and dental cement.

Placing a Core

A temporary filling is placed or the core is built up to support future restoration.

Crown Placement

If needed, a custom crown is placed over the tooth to restore full protection.
